This project was created as a personal exploration into split-tone photography of natural landscapes. Each picture was set up, framed and shot using a Nikon D7100 and later edited using Adobe Photoshop.
The primary objective of this project was to document the grandeur beauty of mountainous landscapes accessorized with surreal, dreamlike effects.
A significant challenge encountered when creating this project was determining an interesting composition to frame the tight definition between rock and snow, all while taking advantage of leading lines to captivate the viewer. The use of a prime lens furthered this challenge by making it difficult to find an appropriate angle in the challenging terrain; however, the narrow crop allows for full, abstract shots while providing minimal information about the surrounding environment. Coupled with sharp split toning and lightened shadows, the images feel hypnogogic and dissociative of the real world.
